"I'm going to review this race a bit differently. Let me share with you why you would run this race and why you would not.
If you're the kind that gets pumped up by the crowds or a large and very professional event, then this one is not for you. If you need tons of support along the way then pass on by with this event.
However, if you are looking for an event with a small crowd or runners where you might have that opportunity to place in your age group for the first time - this is your race. If you're looking for a completely flat course to go after that new PB, I can assure you this is the one! Or, if you just happen to have family in Albany, Georgia, then you might as well go out and support a good cause!
This race is basically small town America and is hosted by the Albany Georgia Marine Corps Logistics Supply Depot - a very nice Marine Base facility there in the city. The base is completely fenced in and the race course is nothing more than the perimeter road that sits right inside of the fence - other than the start and finish.
You do this race because you love to run and not for the glamor and glitz of the high-end races. None of that is here. But if you love good hometown people and an event with that small-town feel, you'll love this race!
BTW, at the age of 53 last year I put in a new PB of 1:45:54 at this race and placed in my age group for the first time. In fact, I placed first in my age group. (Did I mention there were only 7 of us guys in that age group? :-)
If you're coming in from out of town, I would recommend the Merry Acres Hotel. It's a nice quaint hotel with a wonderful restaurant and less than a 30 minute drive from the Marine Base.
Happy Running!"
