"This is a first timers race. The course is mostly flat with a very little climbing on the bike. It is a very crouded race, which proves to be a lot of fun for newbies and kind of frustrating for seasoned athletes unless you are an exceptionally fast male. The men go off in the first wave and the run always starts off fast but if you can hold about a 6:30 pace or faster then you should be free to race as you like. Very fast women will start running into back-of-the-pack men about half-way through the bike."

"The Jay Benson Triathlon in Albuquerque NM is actually a reverse triathlon (Run, Bike, Swim) that takes place on the grounds of Kirtland Air Force Base. The event is one of the first triathlon's in area and usually has a large and very competitive field.
The Run - Very flat and fast 5K around the base. The run is entirely on the paved streets of the base.
The Bike - Sporadic hills throughout the Y shaped course. Good pavement in most areas.
The Swim - The swim portion of the race is conducted in an Olympic sized pool. Because this portion of the race is last the field is somewhat spread out, but the pool can be hectic with such a large number of competitors. The swim portion of the race is only 400M.
Overall this is a very neat event given the size and competition. The event as a whole could have better organization and a more competitor friendly attitude. "
