"Train 18 weeks. Taper for three weeks. Fly to DC. Get hotel. Show up for marathon, ready to qualify for BOSTON.
Race canceled.
Why? Failure of race to get proper permits. This race is run in a federal park and the permit limited the number of participants.
Race director's excuse? Thought it was OK to overbook race and was surprised when park rangers knew how to count.
Race director posts message that he is "sorry." Well, okay, but having taken our money it was your responsibility to have everything worked out or cancel in advance. Having runners show up on race morning to be turned away is outrageous.
No run. No qualify. Fly home. Never again.
I'm out cash and hours of training.

"THis was a beautiful course, but the rain forced the organizers to call off the marathon while people were running so no one knew about it. They were able to get people's times and enter them in for Boston. (this is a Boston qualifier race) Still fun to run though but watch out for that surprise hill around mile 5 or so."
