1 Reviews for Mountain View Trail Half Marathon

  (10-19-2009)
"This was my third half marathon and my first trail race. I live really close to the island, and it's my favorite place to train, so it seemed like familiar trails would be a good place to race.
The race was very well organized and while the RD was only expecting 50 for the inaugral event, he ended up with 125 runners.
The course begins with a half mile of flat, followed by a mile of uphill on well maintained dirt roads. After the first aid station, you descend back down again, but all in less than a half mile, which makes for some hairy racing.
The last 10 miles are along the Mountain View trail, which is well maintained, and is flattish with gentle rollers all along.
There were aid stations every couple of miles, and while there weren't crowds watching, the entire course can be seen from the road.
Personally I had a great race. I started near the back, and while my plan was to negative split the race, I ended up being within seconds for the two halves. Around mile 7, I got passed by a bison, who ran off into the grass, only to reappear a little way down the trail and cross in front of what I can only imagine were some nervous runners.
The finish line was well stocked with water and gatorade, and all finishers got a rather nice coffee mug.
The post race feed consisted of hamburgers and hotdogs, along with all the fixings. It was nice to finish the race and spend an hour or so relaxing with family and friends in a peaceful setting.
This race is on my todo list for next year already!"
