"Amazing course for the half. Never done the full, but have heard great things. It's next on my list.
The half gets an awesome medal and long sleeve cotton t-shirt. Check out the pics on www.1mileatatime.com

"Although revised for this year, the course continues to have gently rolling hills, so be prepared. Great group of runners. Surprising number of spectators for this part of the town. Great set up in terms of real bathrooms in addition to port-a-potties. Sweet medal. Easy packet pick up for those in the valley because they came out to Tempe one day for packet pick up. Beautiful mountain scenery. Lots of shots by photographer. "

"Sitting by a fire as the sun rises in the middle of the desert is a unique way to start a marathon. That your doing this race with less than 600 people makes it feel even more special.
The first 10k is on a maintained forest service road and feels effortless. Once hitting the asphalt it starts to feel like a normal marathon. It does travel through residential but its a posh golf community and fact that the backdrop is the amazing Superstition Mtns adds to the beauty. The Dutchman's gold is still up there.
The course has some nice downhills and gentle uphills. Not much is flat but it doesn't beat you up. With runners capped at 600, its a very social environment on the course.
There are very few spectators, but there are real cowboys and cowgirls on horseback using the trails along the course. Some quite friendly. Friendly enough to give this marathoner a beer at mile 24. Gotta carbo load.
The swag is nothing special. The expo is small. The medal is nice. But I'd do this race again over PF Chang's.

"The marathon starts at the base of the superstition mountains and you wait for the race to start sitting around on carpet squares by warming fires, it's pretty cool. The run starts downhill on a dirt road and it is very scenic. Once you turn off the dirt road you are on a state highway and then some residential streets so the last 19 miles aren't all that special. Still, the morning run on dirt is great."

"This is a really hilly course and the beginning is downhill so don't go out too fast."
