"The Brea 8K (4.97 miles) boasts "OC's Finest Finish Line" with a Food Fair at the end sponsored by local food establishments such as CPK, Claim Jumper, Rubio's, Olive Garden, and Coffee Bean to name a few. The registration fee is very reasonable at $25 and guarantees you entrance to the Fair as well as contributes towards the academic and instrumental programs at Brea Olinda High School. In addition, you also get a T-shirt and a goody back.
The course itself is fairly flat and goes through some neighborhood areas in Brea but nothing to get too excited about. There were 4 water stations along the route and the volunteers were awesome.
This is not a chip-timed race but they do time the race somehow (not sure how they do it exactly). At the finish line, they direct you into finish lanes by the order that you finished and you give the person at the end of your line the tag at the bottom of your bib.
There were 3000 registered participants this year and I think they cap it off at 3000 since they had mentioned that it was "sold out". So, if you're interested in running this race in the future, don't wait until the last minute!
The Food Fair at the end was cool and I was able to get some samplings of food but it was VERY crowded. They ran out of pizza just as I got to the BJ's booth and the lady said it would be a few minutes until some new pizzas would arrive. I decided to just wait since it took so long just to get to that area. Within about 4 minutes, they got some more pizzas and I was able to get my slice. Also, tried a fish taco from Rubio's which was really good and got a water and some fruit. I wanted to get a Jamba Juice smoothie but they ended up running out.
The race start time was 8am and parking was not a problem so I didn't have to wake up super early like for other races.
Will I run it again next year? Probably. It's close to my home and not too expensive (always a good combination) and the food at the end is a nice bonus. Hopefully next year I can finish faster and get my hands on a Jamba Juice smoothie!"
