"A fun and well-organized race in a beautiful part of Vermont which I really loved! The Vermont 50 event is actually 3 races in one: a 50-mile mountain bike race, a 50-mile ultra run, and a 50 kilometer (31 mile) ultra run. The 50 mile course for bikers and runners differs a bit from the 50K course, but both courses are nearly all trails (trails which do cross private property and therefore aren't all usually open to the public). Expect to constantly be climbing or descending hills as south-central Vermont is very hilly, and they're mean hills! However, this is a gorgeous, wooded and verdant area near the Mount Ascutney ski resort and you'll even get some good views from some of the hills you climb. I found that the participants demonstrated a LOT of courtesy as they shared the courses while running or biking. The aid stations are at regular intervals (some are easy for your crew/cheering squad to reach) and have a lot of food of various kinds (I saw cookies, chips, pretzels, potatoes and salt, sandwiches, gels, sports drinks, etc.)
