5 Reviews for Dallas White Rock Marathon

"First, want to send a shout out to the in-laws for the built in baby
sitting!! My wife and I ran the Dallas half marathon yesterday. Didn't have
the "A" game, however , it was a PR, and far, far better than RnR San
Antonio.
Weather was 50 degrees and cloudy, virtually 100% humidity and stayed that
way the entire run. Although I am a 10 year Dallas resident it is the first
time I have run what is considered to be "The Dallas Marathon" I loved the
course, which wound through the city, giving a good cross section of town
and ending on the historic Katy Trail to the finish. Totally dug that. I did
not dig, however the cramp I acquired at mile 11 that refused to go away.
I will without question run this again, as a matter of fact I plan this for
my first full next year. The full goes around White Rock Lake, which is a
great venue. I have ridden this countless times via bicycle, but have never
run around the 10 mile lake loop.
If you are looking for a flat, BQ race with an opportunity for perfect
weather, I totally recommend this race. Gently rolling at most it provides a
great opportunity to PR and offers all the stuff a big city race can bring
to the table with out the price tag or the wait list.
Great venue, great run, but where were the Port-o-potties? Definitely could
use more of those, like times 3. That and the after food kinda sucked, but
there is no shortage of places to grab some great food in Dallas, so low
points off for that. Next up: The Cowtown Half February 27, 2010 the rare
Saturday race.

"This was my second half marathon. Starting at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, the route takes you through downtown Dallas, Turtle Creek area, and then down the Katy Trail back to AAC.
The course has some rolling hills in the first half and some long, steady inclines.
The half and full marathon start at the same time in a corral system. The half and full splits around mile 7, I think. If you are running the full, you get to run around White Rock Lake.
This is a big race with 20,000 folks, with the majority running the half. Even with the corral system, there are a lot of people! My suggestion is to have the marathon start an hour before the half marathon.
There are NOT enough port-a-potties!!! Runners can use the restrooms in the AAC, which is great, but the lines were longer than a Mavs game. I went to hit the port-a-potties near the start line. There were a grand total of 6, yes, only 6. There was certainly room for four times that amount. There were lines for all the port-a-potties along the route as well. And there weren't a heck of a lot of them on the route.
The end of the half goes down the Katy Trail. This should have been where I could kick up the speed, but there were too many people and the trail narrows. It was difficult to see the finish line and by the time I saw it, it was too late to sprint and not trample over the crowds.
The crowds were awesome! Lots of folks giving out water, goodies and cheering us on! Dallas residents are the best!
Lots of good beer at the end, both outside and inside the AAC. Food was ok. My bagel was frozen and other than oranges and bananas, that was about it. But it's hard to feed 20,000 starving runners.

"Great race - interesting course, especially loved the park area toward the end. My biggest complaint is how food is handled at the end - you have to wait in line for ~20 minutes before getting any food at all. In my opinion, this should be planned differently - some of us need carbs instantly!! I was able to get water right away so that was good. Overall it was an excellent race and one that I would do again."

"This race was everything you would want out of a good marathon. But pee before you get there the lines to the potties were crazy."
