"There are races I look forward to each season because they are so well run & a lot of fun to participate in. The Liberty Tri could easily become one of those races for me.
Swim- Waves were set off like clockwork. Well marked.
Bike- Yes, it's hilly. But if you've trained on hills it's doable. Very well marked. Plenty of volunteers directing traffic, cheering you on & handing out bottles of HEED or water.
Run- Beautiful mostly paved trail. A few small rolling hills. Plenty of water/aid stations which were needed as the black asphalt trail does get warm & the breezes off the lake don't always hit the trail.
My only complaint about this race is part of the run course. By the time I hit the campground (Mile 12.5ish), campers were starting to light fires to cook on & the smoke was hard on the lungs. I was battling a bad sinus cold during this race so it may have just hurt me more than others. Not sure.
Bottom line: If you're looking for a great Oly or Half Iron pick this one. You will NOT be disappointed.
Oh, & do yourself a favor and run through the finish and back into the lake. It served well as an impromptu ice-bath.
