"This race is pretty much an annual event for me because it's only a few miles from where I live. But it takes much more than being close by to get me out and this race does indeed offer much more!
The course is set out on an old clearing where the silver comet train used to pass and which is now paved with less than a 15% incline at any location due to the need for such when the train traveled that way.
This is definitely a small town race with a small crowd, but it's a great opportunity to enjoy a beautiful run through a wooded area and go after that PB since the course is almost entirely flat.
The course starts on a road and proceeds for over a mile allowing the race contestants to spread out before making a left turn onto the trail and heading out to the turn-around point for a roughly 6 mile run back to the finish line.
The race is usually run in late October and weather conditions are usually chilly but most frequently dry. The medal is not terribly impressive (nice but not as expensive as others I've seen) but the shirts are always very nice long sleeve T's with nice graphic art.
Parking is limited but there are shuttle buses to carry you from the parking lots of nearby stores to the starting line and return you to the starting line from the finish line.
Hope to see you out there!
