2 Reviews for Reservoir Triathlon

"In 1989, my training buddies and I discovered a little known reservior in Morgan Hill; Uvas Reservior. Nestled in a burgeoning wine region and surrounded by rolling agricultural roads, it was ideal for training. And we thought, "This would be an outstanding place for a race."
Well thanks to the team at Threshold Racing, this year's inaugural Reservoir triathlon made that a reality. And what a great success it was. With the recent rains, the reservoir was full and the water was the best it's been in years. The bike course, which included to climbs and 2 very challenging descents, was top notch. And the out and back run gave you the opportunity to see where you stood and run down your competition.
But what made the race was the organization. The transition was well laid out with plenty of room for competitors, Entrances and Exits were clearly marked and easy to negotiate, and the spread at the finish...well, it was great. But the real crowning achievement were the tents and seated covered areas at the finish. I can't tell you how nice it was to sit in a chair, rather than the ground...or stand at the finish.
One other stand out, was how the team included...and took care of supporters...making certain they were hydrated and drinking water as they routed on their competitors. My wife mentioned it twice. So it must have been great. I strongly recommend you add this event to your 2011 calendars. "

"This was the first time this race was held, so hats off for a great day of racing!
I was very glad I took the drive down from SF for this race. A good hour and fifteen drive (really fast and not traffic at 5am) was worth it for this event. It is held at the UVAS Reservoir, which only allows limited events to be held so it is a treat to swim there.
While the start temperature was hovering around 55 degrees, the water actually warmed you up as it was in the 60's. The swim course took you around this peninsula in the reservoir. This gives an interesting perspective to where you are, as well as how fast/slow you are going, because you have a much closer reference point. This also keeps you from going too far off course.
Onto the bike, and this was an amazing course. Much like the UVAS sprint race in May, but some additional challenges as you go over the hill to Morgan Hill, and back over a very nasty climb called Llagas Road. I recommend taking a ride on the entire course as gearing can help you a lot and knowing what is in store. This is one of the more scenic and fun routes a race has taken me on. It is one big loop around the reservoir, so no tracking back on itself.
The run is an out and back along the reservoir. The out portion is slightly uphill, and the return slightly downhill. This makes for some impressive negative splits for your run. Slightly mundane, but you you can see everyone on the course coming and going, so if you are trying to gauge where your are in the race and track down fellow Age Grouper's it easy.
Very fun day out there with safe and fun courses. To end the day, they even get an alcohol license and bring in a few kegs for the adults. Very nice waiting for the awards just hanging out in the sun with a Bud Light. "
