"Overall, an excellent race for being the inaugural race in Morro Bay. There were a few things that could be enhanced/modified to make it a little better (detailed below) but it was a perfect day and the race staff was super friendly and fun. The announcer was awesome - really pumped up the small crowd. There were about 160 of us (120 guys, 40 girls) and really representative of all levels - some first timers and some elites. The small size made it relaxed yet still big enough to have fun.
Swim: The water was chilly (50-51?) but calm with very little current. However, the last buoy wasn't clearly visible and many swimmers started swimming off course, adding a bit of mileage to the swim. But a minor fix for next year.
Bike: GORGEOUS course. Some minor climbs and lots of great rollers. There was a really wide shoulder almost the entire time and the turns were clearly marked. My only complaint about the bike course was that once you got back into the town, there was a stoplight that many of us had to stop at...not what you want to do during a race. But minor and I'm sure they'll fix that for next year as well.
Run: Totally unique for a tri course run. It was 100% on the beach. It was so beautiful to run along the ocean with crashing waves. The run was nice and flat (although challenging because it was on sand) and then all of a sudden we had to run up/around some big rocks for quite a while. I actually thought it was fun - more of an adventure race feel. So not my fastest run but it was pretty cool and unique.
I would recommend this race to others as well as race it again. A great inaugural race!"
