"For a swelting 95 deg F day in North Little Rock's lovely Burns Park, the 2009 Dawg Dayz XTERRA (also referred to as Heart of Arkansas XTERRA South Central Cup with the longer race immediately following) was a welcome oasis to the unsually hot beginning of summer in Arkansas. Impressive sign-in and logistics were super simple with a nice, partially shaded transistion/viewing area. XTERRA pros, like Melanie McQuade, participated in the longer cup race!
Swim in Victory Lake was pleasant, with warmish Arkansas River water that was not as muddy as I'd expected. Mountain bike was suprisingly fun and moderately challenging, without too many climbs. There were a few unrideable areas (in my opinion) on the Burns Park Boy Scout trail; however the trail moved fast! Trail run was TOUGH, with a 200'-300' climb up switchbacks to Emerald Park and back.
I would definitely do this race again! I completed and reviewed the "sport" distance, 1/2 mile swim, 10 mile bike, 3 1/2 mile run."
