"The race itself is very good with plenty of aid stations, every 10 miles on the bike and every mile +/- .2 on the run. The swim is an ocean swim in the gulf and typically is just under the 78 degree cutoff. The current and waves CAN be an issue depending on the year. The bike course is flat and typically fast. You may experience some winds, but with an out and back, you will get both cross, tail and headwinds. The final bad patch of road is scheduled to be repaved in late 2009, in time for the 2010 race. The run is HOT. Typically a stagnant wind run, there is little shade on this course. For those athletes training in the midwest or north, practice all you can in warm weather, be it outdoors or inside with the heat cranked on a treadmill. The spectators and surrounding community is what really makes this race a 5 star. The community loves the racers and they sit outside with sprinklers, noise makers and beers to watch and cheer on the competitors. Overall, this is a very good race from the registration to the finishers' party and awards."
