"I have done a few ironmans and several halfs. This race had both strengths and weaknesses. The strengths were: a beautiful start venue, great on-course orginazation, wonderful supporters and volunteers, tough Providence cops who kept the race course clear, a very challenging run course, and good post race food snf massage.
The cons centered around the point-to-point nature of this event. To have to visit it 3 places during registration to drop off gear is too much (this should be coordinated centrally and race organizers should move our gear). Then to have to organize transportation to the race on race morning (parking remotely and then taking buses) made for a very early morning. Spectating at this race was also a challenge. The last 10 mi of the bike course was horrendous (road conditions) and I have never seen so many flat tires in a race. There were some very deep potholes early in the race too that were not marked at all may have caused flats and/or crashes.
Overall, I would not do this race again. Too much consternation for an average event. The Ford Ironman money making machine also made this event a little less pleasant -getting gouged for every amenity. "

"Great race in a nice city but logistical nightmare to set up T1. T1 is about 35-40mi from Providence and with single-lane traffic for a good portion, getting there can be a tall task if there's nice weather (lots of traffic going to beach). Expo/registration was a nightmare (2hrs in line) but the race itself was very nice. Great roads most of bike, awesome run."
