"This was my first half iron distance race, and while the weather on the day was a little rough, I thought the organizers did a great job of managing that and helping make it a great race for all involved.
The swim consists of two loops within the harbor. Even with really bad winds which blew the start buoy away, the water was still fairly calm. The 2009 race only did one loop, since the start was delayed for almost an hour and the organizers were concerned about another storm front moving in.
The bike course is really flat. Officers are present at all the major intersections, and the course is very well marked. 2009 had tail winds on most of the first half, and then a head wind on the way back - It was very out of the ordinary, but at least it stayed cool - especially during the hail and rain.
The run is on trails and roads around the state park. Two loops, each with 3 out a back legs. Great for spectators too, and it's pancake flat. Aid stations are well stocked and the volunteers were awesome.
The final run in to the finish is one of the best I've experienced - with the exception of the marathons I've run. Good food and refreshments afterwards as well.
I'll be back next year!"
