"This was a great event! I would like to see mile markers on the run course if at all possible though. Maybe just mark mile 1 and mile 2. This will be extremely helpful for out-of-towners not as familiar with the area. Thanks!!"

"Great race with outstanding support. One question for Richmond Multisports - why isn't the official USAT category of "Master Clydesdale" offered?"

"This was my second triathlon - both Richmond MultiSport Tris, and as long as RMS continues with their amazingly comfy race t-shirts, I will continue to participate in them:) I like the long-course pool as mentally I'd rather do 8 laps than 16. I overheard some complaints about the pool (passing, etc) after the race, but I would have to guess that no matter how messy the pool is, an open-water swim has got to be crazier. The bike course did get a little bogged down with cars at one or two points, but it is a pretty ride with a good climb and the run is through a beautiful neighborhood - if you're not too tired to bother noticing.
One of the best things that RMS does is their pre-race briefings. I don't know if all races do them, but I learned a lot and they really help newbies with pre-race jitters. From USAT rules to how to set up your transition area to a review of the course, it covers a lot of worthwhile information. Laurie and her crew do a fantastic job.

"I had a great time for my first triathlon. As the previous reviewer said, I also sucked at the swim. I was a little intimidated by the length of the pool. I did make up some time with my run since I got a little lost on the bike with a little direction misunderstanding. There were a few parts of the course that were confusing but overall it was a good race. Thanks!"

"Typically I am a distance runner, mostly half and full marathons. Decided to break into Tri and picked this race for my first attempt.
Super worried about the swim, and rightfully so. My swim was a mess.
I was so nervous I started the race with my goggles on top of my head instead of over my eyes. Then I went out so strong I caught the guy in front of me way before the first turn (im not sure we were even halfway down the lane). I was all up in his feet, but I could not see him (goggles on the head remember).
I was so out of sorts and confused that I swallowed and choked on water trying to figure out where I was. At the first wall I stopped to fix my goggles and took off again.
I Caught the guy in front of me again, tried to pass him and swam head first into the oncomming swimmer comming back towards me in the same lane. That totally sucked, for me and for my unlucky victim.
Finally I passed the guy in front of me at the next wall but by then I was toast. I had exerted so much energy trying to get around this guy that I was totally exhausted and I was just reaching the halfway point.I just had to gut out the rest of the swim and hope for the best.
After that, everything was great. Other than learning that I am a terrible swimmer and cyclist, I had a great time, loved the atmosphere, and I am allready looking forward to my next tri, and next years Napier sprint!"

"This is the last Sprint Tri of the year in the Northeast and usually has about 600 participants. This is another well organized race by Laurie Mehler and the Richmond Multisports crew. The race starts with a 400 meter pool snake swim in one the area's only 50 meter pools. Then you ahve about a 250-300 meter run around the building to T1. The first portion of the the 20k bike is flat and downhill before you hit a sustained uphill climb. It flattens out nicely for the last 2-3 miles back to T2. The run is out and back through local neighborhoods on paved roads and has a few rollers. There is a short straight-a-way before the finish that makes for some fun sprints for the fans. There is great course support and crowd support at this race!
I had a solid race this year and even though I was about a minute slower than last year, I still managed to finish 21st overall and take home 3rd place in my age group. "
