5 Reviews for Lake Dunmore Triathlon

"If you live in New England, and you do triathlons, you are seriously missing out if you don't try this race one year. Hands down, my favorite race (and I've done my share).
This is the third year I've done this race, and it gets better every year. Organization has improved, and all the great aspects of the race are still there!
Just watch out for the heckling lady on the run course! :-) Seriously, just ignore her. (What would a race be without a little character, eh?)
I brought a first timer to the race this year, and he loved it too!"

"Great race. Even better than last year. Course was well marked and although not closed, they did get a big jolly police officer to help out with entry and exit from the state park. The site of the race is just beautiful - Lake Dunmore sits right below Mt. Mossamaloo. There are plenty of good places to stay (I prefer camping in the Moosamaloo Wilderness, which is just east of the mtn, but leaves you with about a half hour drive in the morning.
The bike course itself has a good uphill section to start, riping downhill section to RT 7, and then false flat to uphill as you head back towards the lake. Then repeat! The run course is mildly uphill to the turn then mildly downhill. I consider it one of the faster run courses I have done this year, because of this design.
GREAT post race food. Pizza, salad, bagels, pizza, more pizza.

"Again, a fantastic race. Last year, there was some confusion with the swim and bike courses, but they were clearly marked and explained this year.
Also, I would just like to reiterate that there is as much pizza as you can imagine eating after this race!!!"

"My first full triathlon and what a doosie. Having done the sprint triathlon a few weeks earlier, i was already familiar with the course. The setting is just fantastic, with Mt. Moosamaloo overlooking Lake Dunmore. A nice place to have a race and then spend the day picnicking on the beach with family for sure (if you can get family to come to these ridiculous events!). Swim course was pretty standard but LISTEN to the race director because some dude in a kayak told half the group to go around the wrong buoy on the loop. The bike course is a slight climb for the first 2 miles then some downhill, then some more downhill then a nice ride along RT 7 with a tailwind (thank god) and then a steady uphill back towards the lake, and complete the loop again! The run is all uphill (some flats throughout), then a steady downhill back to the finish. Would definitely recommend camping in the Moosamaloo wilderness (Forest Service RD 32 has a nice campground for $10 a night). Or you can pitch a tent anywhere 200 feet from a road. Great post race meal - pizza and salad!"

"Definitely enjoyed this race, and would recommend it. Would be a great race for first timers.
Pros: beautiful scenery, AWESOME POST RACE FOOD (only race I've ever seen all you can eat pizza after the race), clean swim, beautiful bike course.
Cons: disorganized - untrained volunteers directed about half the swimmers the wrong way on the swim course, and there were not enough volunteers on the bike course, the winner actually made a wrong turn, and then had to make a u-turn because the course wasn't marked well enough, and there was one unattended intersection at the foot of a downhill.
I'm hoping that with this being the 3rd consecutive year for the race, that these logistical kinks will get worked out."
