"I gave the course neutral ratings because I've run it so much. It starts in Golden Gate Park and turns around at the DMV. It really is a nice and flat course. What I like about it is the 5K and 10K split and run in opposite directions toward each other, giving the 5K runners a great view of the 10K leaders.
What I really love about this race is that slow runners, like myself, can actually win a nice prize. This year, I decided to enter the Costume Contest because prizes would be given to the top 10 costumes. We were supposed to dress up as our favorite childhood toy, and I wanted to wear something that wouldn't hinder me from running.
Two days before the race, I made a Lego costume out of an office supply box and plastic cups at work. I didn't have time to paint it, so I gift-wrapped it in red wrapping paper. It took me maybe an hour or two to make. Although my costume looked like a 4th-grader made it, I ended up in 4th place in the contest, winning a 2-nights stay at a nice SF hotel. Not only that, I actually ran faster in the costume in 2009 than in 2008 without a costume. All participants in the contest received special medals.
Very family-friendly event and a great cause. There's live music, freebies at the post-race festival, and it's all in a beautiful location. After the race, you must stay for the contest judging. There are very creative people out there. My costume lost to Toy Story, Lego people, and Transformers (they really transformed into cars!). Tip: Home-made costumes get higher points than costumes that are store bought.
I participate in this event more for the contest than for the run. Rhodyco tends to do a great job with their events, and this one in particular suppports the SF Firefighters Toy Drive."

"Decided to run this particular event due to a flyer received at the Bridge to Bridge.
I love being able to buy a toy and donate it knowing it's going to a good cause.
It was another beautiful day in San Francisco, cool and sunny, basically perfect running weather.
The only downfall was exiting the parking garage. Parking was easy in a sense but getting out of the parking concourse took about a half hour. (Luckily I wasn't driving.) ;o) "
