"This is a great race and is partially sponsored by Nike who have in the past used it as an opportunity to promote the Nike+ system; you can borrow a pair of shoes, N+ chip and iPod, I think you leave your drivers license or credit card details so you don’t just ‘run off’! As with most 5k and 10ks there is a lot of shuffling at the start, if you’re fast don’t be afraid to stand at the front but watch out for the little kids, of which there can be a few, also there are a lot of very fast club runners who turn out for this race. The course is mostly uphill with only the last half mile downhill. You run along Main Street which is quite surreal as this is one of the busiest streets in Santa Monica and is without a car. A quick jink by the 3rd Street Parking Lot and your on Ocean with views over the pacific. You turn around here and it’s a mad dash to the finish and the party that is on Santa Monica pier, with some cool freebies to be picked up. It’s early enough in the year and day that heat is not an issue. All in all a good race and a good vibe."
