1 Reviews for Sawtooth Relay

  (08-10-2010)
"This is a unique race and offers views unlike anything you've ever seen. This is a relay race for teams of six (men's, women's, or coed). You run from Stanley, ID to Ketchum, ID (roughly 62 miles), and each person runs two legs of approximately 4-6 miles each.
The course is run along a mountain highway, with views of the Sawtooth Mountains.
There isn't really a "crowd" per se, but typically your van of teammates will stop along the course and offer you encouragement and water. There are no aid stations, so it's up to your team to provide water/gatorade for you. There ARE porta-potties at each exchange though.
This is not a serious race, although each person will run between 9 and 12 miles between the two legs, and much of it is uphill. Teams will often dress up or have funny names. There's a lot of camaraderie along the course.
There's nothing like running up a mountain at 4am with nothing but a headlamp and the sound of your feet hitting the highway pavement.
When you finish, you receive a technical T, free food and beer, and can relax and enjoy the live music provided. For about $55/person, this race is worth every penny and ounce of effort. It's great for experienced runners and novices alike!"
