"A gorgeous setting awaits you at this race but, your kids won't notice. They'll be busy building sand castles on the lake shore, running in and out of the cool waters of Donner Lake and playing on one of the two playgrounds at the race site. The transition area is usually nestled between both playgrounds so your other half can keep an eye on the kids and one looking at for your racer as he or she blows through. The picnic areas are really nice. You can easily spend the day here. Take or picnic or don't , there is a snack shack on site. There is also a lifeguard on duty. The event organizers also often provide a jumpy house for youngsters attending the event. The only race that offers free masseges after the race. A nice food spread and beautiful location.
A nominal admission is charged to enter the beach area. Race participants are free to enter the venue.

"challenging course with amazing views! water wasn't cold and the roads were nice enough with a closed descent and climb. tons of aid on the run, which is slightly more than a 10K at 6.7 miles. great having families at the cabins around the lake cheer! cons are normal stuff: not enough small shirts and no veggie-friendly food. glad i didn't place cuz the awards sucked for how much the entry fee was. big blue, a local company, has taken over the race (not sure why), and they did a great job with the large number of participants."

"I have done this race 10 times. You will notice the altitude about 200 yds into the swim so start out slow. Bike begins with a steep climb up old Donner Summit Pass. Run is all the way around the lake. This is one of the prettiest courses anywhere."

"I was unable to do this race in 2008 due to a cancellation, but the race organizer was such a poor communicator and did not refund any of the race entry. I would never do a change of pace event ever again"
