"Great event! Bike was challenging, and the run was too (mostly because it had just rained and was muddy). I might warn people about sand in their bike shoes (it was a little hard clipping in). But other than that, AWESOME!"

"Just brilliant. Even the weather was great this year. Really well organized, I had no glitches at all and the volunteers are awesome! Keep up the good work; I'll be back next year for sure."

"I did the du and it was great to see how many people were there for the du option. 4 stars overall due to the lack of port a johns. Great couse and lots of support. I have done it 3 times over the past four years and its gotten better every year. One sugesstion - mabey a vegetarian option at the end for food. "

"I really like this race, the folks that put it own do a super job! I'm sure the organizers got the message and there will be more porta-johns next year. This race, like a few others, is a favorite I look forward to every year. I think it’s only going to get bigger, especially since it’s the only triathlon around on Memorial Day Weekend. See ya next year!"

"Great course, volunteers, parking, organization. Only one improvement needed--more port-a-johns."

"This was my first triathlon, so I had no idea what to expect. Overall, I had a great time and I will definitely do triathlons more often. The biggest gripe I would have is that they only rented five porta-potties for 300 racers and their guests and the staff and whoever else was there. Five is simply not enough. I waited in line for almost 30 minutes and almost missed the start of the swim. If I lived locally, this wouldn't be a problem. But I don't, so I have to drive for more than an hour and I'm well hydrated for the race, so it's really lose-lose for those that have to go.
It was also not spectator friendly. The area around the transition area was really the only place for guests to hang out and that was pretty small. This made it hard for guests to move around the area and take pictures, as it seemed they were always in the way of the participants and getting yelled at by the staff to move out of the way.
It also seemed that parking was not as well organized as it could be. Once the main lot filled up, participants had to fend for themselves. My wife and I had to park nearly 1/2 a mile away from the race area, which is more than a ten-minute walk if we're carrying all the gear and walking with a bike. Sure, we could have gotten there earlier, but that would not have changed the logistics of how parking was handled. It would have simply been someone else that had to walk 1/2 a mile there and back after running the triathlon.
The race itself was fantastic, though, and I would definitely do it again, as long as the porta-potty situation is fixed next year."

"Great overall first time experience for a newbee triathlete. I competed with my wife in the coed duathlon. To echo what the previous reviewer said, more porta-johns are needed for next year.
I want to highlight a big plus and give kudos to Rainbow Cycles in Southern Pines; one of the sponsors. They were running the SAG wagon for the bike course. I had a flat at about the 5 mile mark. After using 4 CO2 cartridges with no luck they arrived and switched out my inner tube in less than 5 min. After the turn around point my rear tire blew again and they arrived and switched out both the tire and tube. They saved the day. My wife and I ended up taking 3d in the coed duathlon....go figure. I'll definitely be back next year!"

"Very enjoyable race. As a first time participant in any triathlon, I was unsure of what to expect. All of the staff and other racers were very friendly and helpful.
The volunteers along the course made things easy to find, and left no room for ambiguity.
Only complaint was there was a very long line for the portajohns- Probably could have more than six.
My family had the suggestion that an alternate route within the club via which spectators could arrive, and perhaps another parking spot for them, it would prevent spectators who don't arrive before the start from having to drive in along the race route.
I look forward to participating next year."
