"This was the second year in a row that I ran this half-marathon. I wasn't expecting to improve my time much this year, but was looking forward to the rolling hills and running across the Kinzua Dam again. The temperature was cool but not too cold, and the rain held off as well.
The course begins with a slow climb for the first mile and a half then evens out until you cross the Dam. After that it's rolling hills along the river in a rural environment. As you enter the city, police hold up traffic for you to cross over business route 6 and then you run on sidewalks for the next mile and a half, climbing the whole way. They changed the end of the course this year so you wind up running on streets for the last mile and end in front of the YMCA instead of behind it. A large crowd was gathered at the finish line this time, and photographers were positioned throughout the race for race photos which can be downloaded.
There's only four aid stations along the course. At the end there were cookies, fruit, water and Gatorade. The aid stations were limited to water and Gatorade. There were bathrooms at the Dam at mile 4, but no porta-pots along the course. Spectators are welcome along the whole course, but are not permitted to cross the Dam which has been secured since 9/11.
With the starting climb, expect a slower first mile or two as people find their pace. It's a small group of runners so you can easily navigate the crowd."

"This is a rural course along the Allegheny River with lots of rolling hills. You begin at the parking lot of the Kinzua beach and run uphill to Route 6. The first three miles is along Route 6 and the Allegheny Reservoir, and then you run across the Kinzua Dam. From there you run on a residential back road that has lots of tree covering. The last two miles are in the town of Warren PA along sidewalks ending at the YMCA. Aid stations are sparse, with only four stations along the race course."
