"Course:
Swim: Clear Lake isn't "clear" if that's where you were thinking the name came from. I don't know how it got its name. It's not weedy, nor does it smell bad or disgust me, it's just a little slimy with very limited visibility. I was picking crud out of my wetsuit after the race, and I think that crud contributed to some chaffing. No big deal. The water was calm though, even on a pretty windy day. I can't see this lake getting real choppy.
Bike: Rural Minnesota has got to be one of the most boring places in the world, but the course was very flat, and seems to be conducive to some strong winds.
Run: Fantastic run course around clear lake (2 laps for the long course). Not very shaded though. Good water station locations and spacing.
Crowd:
For a first year race with limited participation, and pretty much out in middle of nowhere, the crowd support was at least on par with what I would have expected. Likely better.
Organization:
I had heard some grumblings about a mixup with sending runners off in the right/wrong direction for their second loop of the run course, but I wasn't in that group. I felt like the overall organization was very solid from packet pickup to post-race food. I was also impressed that the venue had a couple of bathroom options as well as some rentals.
Overall:
If it wasn't such a long drive for me, I would definitely consider doing this one again, but driving through rural Minnesota is a grind I don't want to deal with again."
