1 Reviews for Bachman Valley Half Marathon

  (07-30-2009)
"This is a very no-frills half marathon held in Westminster, MD., and organized by the local Road Runners Club. It is held in the latter part of September and is a good training race for a fall marathon.
The course is pretty challenging as the area around Westminster is quite hilly. The course is a double-loop that starts at Bachman Valley Farms on Old Bachman Valley Road (hence the race’s name). It is all rural so there will be limited spectator support but the scenery is beautiful with the hills and farmland of Carroll County. The weather this time of year can run from hot and near 80 degrees to fall-like, cool temperatures. Check the forecast and plan accordingly.
There are no premiums in this race. The Westminster Road Runners will be selling T-shirts the day of the race but that is pretty much it. No finisher medals, either. The year I ran this race, 2006, there was a field of just over 100 runners. Last year’s race (2008) had almost 200. It appears to be growing in popularity ever year as word-of-mouth spreads. This year, 2009, will be the 28th running of the half marathon.
