"This is a quiet course that runs through Winterville, GA and surrounding areas. If you like quiet semi-rural roads, this is the 10k for you. There are no major hills on the course. It's primarily flat with some very slight incline/decline every so often. I think it's actually a solid feat that they managed this flat of a course in this part of Georgia. The number of runners is pretty small, around 150 - maybe because the Peachtree Road Race is the following weekend.
The race begins and ends at the Winterville Depot. The depot has a covered area with picnic tables and restrooms - pretty convenient. It's a small race without many spectators, but you'll run past the depot about a mile or so before you actually finish the race and it's a nice place for someone to hang out and cheer for you as you head into the final stretch. The volunteers at this race are super nice and enthusiastic, and present at every turn. Not to state the obvious, but the weather is brutally hot at this time of year, even in the morning, and the roads aren't that shaded, for the most part. I'd recommend dressing pretty lightly if possible...definitely not the time to bust out your new all-black running outfit.
Good local summertime 10k for the laid back among us!"

"This is a great 10k alternative for anyone that doesn't get an entry into the Peachtree Roadrace in Atlanta. The Marigold has a strong local following around Athens, GA and has been getting more and more interest from people all over North Georgia and beyond in the recent years. The course is relatively flat and fast, and the start/finish line is in the enjoyable historic downtown of Winterville, GA. The route is all on paved roads, which are well marked and kept free of traffic during the race.
The crowds are what you would expect for a local 10k - nothing huge, but enough to keep you going throughout the race.
The race organizers do a good job - finishers in the top 3 positions in each age group typically receive a hand-made age group award. There is plenty of water, Gatorade, and snacks for after the run.
I'd recommend this race to anyone who is looking to set a 10k PR or just interested in seeing some enjoyable country roads."
